Our Program for the Treatment of Anorexia, Bulimia, and Compulsive Overeating
The Victorian Phase One and Two is located in our unique Victorian house. This six bed facility is therapeutically designed to give each patient individualized attention to help them overcome their struggle against anorexia, bulimia, or compulsive over eating. The center of the house opens onto a three-story atrium which sends cascades of light and vegetation into the meeting rooms. While all the rooms have been designed to promote therapeutic growth, the group areas replicate a cozy and intimate environment rather than an institutional one.
Our patients immediately feel cared for, welcomed and supported in this comforting tranquil setting. This is the setting where they will learn about their anorexia, bulimia, or over eating, and practice the skills to recover from their eating disorder. The house is abundant with cozy sitting rooms and nooks including a meditation room and sun deck. Five fireplaces further enhance the warmth and comfort of the house setting, and patients are encouraged to bring personal mementos from their private lives to make The Victorian their home. Patients will inevitably find themselves developing emotional intimacy skills in this nuturing and healing environment. Personal growth assignments make use of the beach environment and include nature walks and meditation on the sand.
The Victorian Phase Three and Four is specifically designed to meet the transitional needs of our patients. Each phase is carefully monitored by staff to assist the patient’s growth and transition into ‘real world’ situations. Patients are encouraged to utilize the education and skills learned in the earlier phases and are offered choices to attend school while in treatment for their eating disorder, obtain volunteer work, or seek employment. Weekly restaurant outings with a staff therapist assist patients to develop confidence in their food choices. Patients start achieving their goals while living in a supportive, healthy environment. The Victorian transitional program is located on picturesque Lido Island, a short walk from The Victorian house.
